Aren't we so lucky...

...to have such a beautiful princess in our family now?? We ask each other this question daily.

Kaci is such a sweet addition to our family and we feel so blessed to be trusted to raise her. I know that she, along with Mason and Carter are such choice spirits and I want so much to be able to teach them where they came from and help them to reach their full potentials. It is so special to be around someone who so recently was in the presence of our Heavenly Father. I know she has a special mission to fulfill.

Cousins...

What get together would be complete without taking a picture of cousins together? We are so happy that we have Lyla here in Utah so that our kids have a cousin close by. It will be so fun for Kaci and Lyla to play. We really miss the Bronsons, though and wish we could see them more often! We can't wait for Daniel and Charbel's baby to be born.

I loved having cousins and playing with them growing up and it's fun to see my kids do the same.

The trio

It is so fun having three kids! I have to admit that our house is crazier now. There are two little tornados who need to get their energy out running around the house while I feed Kacianna...and that translate into toys and blankets spread everywhere all the time. But, it's so neat to see them interact together. The boys will always read to Kaci or play with her. Mason never gets tired of cuddling with her and will just lay next to her where ever she is.

Both Mason and Carter help put her pacifier back in her mouth when it falls out. They are such good helpers!

I know that a lot of these pictures are similar, but I love the different expressions on my children's faces.

Meeting Kacianna

A few months before Kacianna was born, I learned of the rule that the hospitals were starting to enforce that children 14 and under were not allowed to visit patients. This made me really sad that Mason and Carter would not be able to come visit us in the hospital. I really wanted them to be able to see us. So I was really happy to find out that the nurses on the baby floor were being more lenient and they let them come! I was so excited and happy! Cindy and AJ came down from Salt Lake and she happened to be holding Kaci when the boys saw her for the first time.

I think it was kind of good that way, that way especially Carter didn't see me holding her right away and I was able to give him a big hug and hold him when he came in.

It was so fun that Cindy, AJ, and Lyla could come down! Lyla and Kaci are only three months apart and we know they are going to be the best of friends!

Mason loves holding Kacianna. He is such a good big brother and always wants to take care of her. I have tons more pictures that support this and will hopefully get them up soon!

Carter loves Kaci too, it is just harder for him to hold her.

Th

e boys were so excited to have Kacianna ride with them in the car. I can't believe we have three car seats now!

We were so grateful that Grandpa and Grandma Barker got Kaci this nice warm baby sleeping bag for her carseat. January has been so cold here and it's nice to know that Kaci is warm and cozy in her carseat. :)

I've been trying to put the pictures in order, but it's taking too long, so hopefully they are not too mixed up!

Kacianna and her birth story

Kacianna Lily Ford
Born December 30, 2009 at 11:28 pm
Weight: 6 pounds 9 ounces
Height: 18-1/2 inches
Hair: Dark like Mason's so far.

We are happy to announce the birth of our beautiful princess.

Kacianna was not due until the 13th of January so she was 2 weeks early. I guess she wanted to make sure that she had at least an appearance in our 2009 blog book. :)

Here is her birth story for those of you who are interested in that type of stuff...

I did not believe that I was actually going into labor. I had about 24 hours of steady contractions, about 10 minutes apart with some 20-40 minute breaks before I knew this was it. Still, I waited for them to become closer together. They started hurting to the point that I had to stop what I was doing and wait for them to finish around 3 pm. So...I went to the store. :) I had to get milk and things for dinner. THen I sat down to work at 6:30 pm (I work in our home at our computer)...and kept track of the contractions. They were steadily 6 to 7 minutes apart for about an hour, and I had to stop typing completely and wait for them to finish...and so I decided to stop working and really believe that this was happening.

Of course, since it is still the holidays, our baby sitters (my sister and brother and David's brother) were still home for the holidays, so I asked my saint of a friend and former roommate, Christy, to be our backup, not thinking that we would have to use her...after all I had never been quite this early before. She very willingly came and stayed with our boys around 9 pm so we could go to the hospital! THANK YOU CHRISTY! I don't know what we would have done without you!

I always have this fear that they are going to send me home. I think that's why I wait so long. I was relieved to hear that I was at an 8 so I could stay and I could also get an epidural!! I love those things. If you go natural on purpose, you are amazing! I can't imagine going all the way without one...even though if Carter hadn't wanted to come knees first, they were going to make me do it (I was a 10 by the time they got around to checking me after being at the hospital for an hour and a half, but that's a story for 21 months ago.) :)

Anyways. I finished dilating pretty quickly and after being at the hospital for less than two hours, our princess Kacianna Lily Ford was born. She is perfect! She had to go to the NICU for an hour because she had a lot of fluid in her lungs. Luckily, once they aspirated it and gave her oxygen, she was just fine.

We are so happy that Kacianna is here and are enjoying her sweet spirit in our home. So far she sleeps like a champ and is perfect. :)
