Learning Sign Language

I have heard from several different places that signing with your baby is really beneficial. I don't do it as much as I should, but I try to always sign "milk" for Mason when he is drinking it, and when he wants it, etc.

I was delighted when I saw him doing this:

Even though it is not the true sign for milk, he was trying, and he was communicating! I love the serious look on his face, he always gets this serious when asking for something, like his life depends on it. :)

Here he is, enjoying the result of asking for his milk. Mason loves milk so much! When I weaned him on his 1st birthday, he had no trouble at all, just as long as he had a nice cup of milk nearby!
Here's another cute picture that I took on the same day. He loves his spiderman chair, and usually brings all sorts of toys over to play with while he sits in the chair.

signing is really, really good for kiddo-s. it helps them to communicate when they can't and they want to so badly. we taught both collin and jack to sign. collin was really good at it and picked up the sign s easily and wanted to sign. (we only taught them the basics: please, thank you, more, all done and cookie...the last one only collin learned) jack also learned the sign for yes.
jack...was a different story. when we started teaching him the signs, he wanted to no part of it and was so very stubborn that when we were trying to get him to say please when he wanted something he would scream and yell and was basically a stubborn cuss!!! but he does really well now. he'll say the word yeas and shake his little fist at the same time.
I am HUGE proponent of signing with babies. the most important thing to remember though is to ask them to say "please" not ask: "what do you say?" b/c they won't connect the words that you are saying with you mouth to the signs that they are using...thus not getting the verbal that they need to learn how to speak. (does that make sense?)
Good job you guys!!!
